Born in 1994, Nana Fremah Amoabeng is a Ghanaian artist specialising in realism, abstract and portraiture.  She is versatile and adventurous in her approach using a combination of textures, colours and style.  She graduated from the Ghanatta College of Art and Design in 2015 and in 2020, she was accepted on the Critlab Residency Programme with other Ghanaian creatives.

Her work is usually a reflection of her sunny, cheerful personality and she uses her gift as a form of advocacy for social issues.  She collaborated with the French Embassy on a project that focused on gender based violence and her works were selected for an exhibition held at Alliance Franciase  in 2023,  She was also an Artist in Residence at the Noldor Residency as well as in 2024 for the Artist in Worldfaze Group in London.

Whilst working on a summer project with the Most Def Foundation, a Ghanaian organisation that supports deaf teens and young adults, Nana Frema was inspired to create her ‘Hand Statement’ series.  This was fuelled by her learning to communicate with the deaf students as the Most Def Camp Director.  In this capacity she managed the camp and taught the students art, co curating an exhibition themed ‘A Minute of Silence’ which was especially put together for the deaf community at the Cape Coast Castle.  The exhibition sought to use art and photography to communicate the history of the capture and movement of the captured Africans to the dungeons.

Nana is a co-ordinator for Women Art Institute Africa (WAIA) a co operative group whose objective is to support and grow women creatives.  She has also previously participated and exhibited in the Chale Wote festival – the biggest creative festival in Africa and served as an in-house artist at the Bedford Art Gallery.
