Reverend Dr. Isaac Kofi Asomani Ababio
1940-2018
Reverend Isaac Ababio was born on the 26th of April 1940 to Abena Nipaa from Kwahu Nkwatia and Kwaku Abaah of Peki-Blengo. He was the last born of 7 children and his mother passed away aged two. He attended the Presbyterian Primary and middle school where he was taught Scripture and learnt to memorise Scripture. After his Common Entrance in 1956, he gained admission to Accra Academy and gave his life to Christ during the Thanksgiving Service of the Silver Jubilee celebrations. His friends were stunned by the dramatic change in his life. In 1960 he gained admission to the Kumasi College of Technology now the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology. On campus, he spent time fellowshipping and evangelising. In 1966 he went into full time ministry and presented a paper at the World Congress on Evangelism which convicted and touched many hearts. This began a journey of regular open-air crusades at the Kwame Nkrumah Circle. He also held crusades in Nkwatia, Akwapim Mampong and Akropong. After marriage to Miss Grace Appiah Kusi and settling in Accra, he had crusades at Bukom Square, the Baiden Powell Memorial Hall.
In 1968, he began the Hour of Visitation Radio Broadcast on GBC 2 every Saturday. An Hour of Visitation Choir was formed to support the radio programme. It ran for 14 years until the military government took the program off air. They started broadcasting on Radio ELWA from Monrovia, Liberia from 1987 to 1990. Then on Joy FM from 1995 to 1999, Channel R and then Spring FM.
In 1969, he moved to Australia and Papua New Guinea with his family where he did tremendous work for God in missions and evangelism. Upon his return to Ghana in 1974, he contributed to the establishment and growth of several organisations such as New Life for All, Christian Outreach Fellowship, GHACOE, GILLBT, National Association of Evangelicals of Ghana and was its first Chairman from 1992 to 2000.
