Marcel Desailly was born on the 7th of September 1968 in Accra, Ghana.  His mother got married to the Head of the French Consulate and relocated to France with her children.  Desailly is one of the greatest centre backs and defensive midfielders.  He had a very successful career with clubs from 1986 to 2006.  He won several titles including the UEFA Champions League with both AC Milan and Marseille.  Desailly also played for Nantes and Chelsea, collecting 11 caps whilst playing international games.   He was a squad member in the French team that won the World Cup in 1998 and Euro 2000.   After retiring, he became a pundit for the British Broadcasting Corporation as well as the French channel Canal Plus and ITV.

He has been very involved in charity work and business, establishing a foundation for health and education in Africa whilst promoting the development of youth.  Desailly owns the Lizzy Sports Complex in East Legon.  He has been inducted into the French Football Federation Hall of Fame.
